New Offerings!

Well, the web provider for TBL Photography has added the ability to blog straight on the site here!  What a nice feature!  I had been stopping by http://tblphotography.blogspot.com/ to offer the occasional thought, comment or tutorial.  I will have to start stopping by here now.

We had a great couple of hours the other night shooting some lovely family portraits!  Dave and Jackie's family is great to work with, and have some pretty cute kids in there.

This spring will see the addition of some prints at the 2010 Gallery KC for First Fridays.

If you have not made it down to the First Fridays in the Arts District, you really should.  There are some great artists here in KC, and you owe it to yourself to stop by and see some of the works.  The galleries open for free, there is live entertainment, and the visuals are stunning.

On a side note, I had to make a stop in a local camera shop today.  I had been told as a friend of a friend type referral (typically the best kind), to stop by Gass Camera Repair Incorporated (913) 432-6057, 5604 Johnson Dr, Shawnee Mission, KS 66202.  I have to say, Clarence Gass comes off as a First Rate Fellow.  His wife met me at the door, and immediately started to help. She also apologized for him being on the telephone for all of a minute while I walked in.  If you enjoy cameras, need something worked on, and appreciate customer service - this is the place for you to stop by.

I have an old Brownie that I think I will take in to get it in working order.  I know there is an Agfa that needs a good going over… I would love to see what some of these old cameras can do!

Sorry you had a bad experience with Mr. Gass. I have been in there a couple of times and he has been most gracious to me.

I have to disagree with you about Gass...I called them after Photographix Unlimited gave me their number because they didn't have the part I needed to fix my broken lens. I spoke with Clerence on the phone and he seemed put off that I was calling him. I asked him if he would have the part that I needed (Rear Fix ring for a Nikon) and he informed me rather gruffly "I don't sell parts"

One would think that any business is good business and he would sell me the part. I explained to him that I had the lens apart and I just needed that part. He make this shocked gasping sound (seemed to me that he didn't think someone could take a lens apart without screwing it up) and told me again that he doesn't sell parts and if I brought it in he would look at it and he might fix it.

So, since he wasn't willing to sell me the part, I did a little more research, found the part number, ordered it off ebay for $25 and fixed the lens. I would have happily paid him $40 for the part if he had it as I needed that lens to do a Wedding that day. However I put it back together with the old Fix ring and limped through the wedding.

So now if I need a lens fixed, Gass will be the last place I go, whereas if Clarence had sold me the part, they would be the first place that I would go.

Seems a shame to alienate potiential future customers just because you don't want to sell them a part and let them fix something on their own....I most likely would have brought other lenses in to be cleaned or fixed...oh well...their loss...
