US Marine Corp War Memorial

US Marine Corp War Memorial

Located at the entrance to the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia; the US Marine War Memorial stands as a memorial for all Marines who have died for America since 1775. Based on the Rosenthal photograph of the flag raising on Iwo Jima, the US Marine War Memorial was constructed to pay homage to all of the Marines who had given their lives in defense of the nation. The 32 foot tall Marines lift the 60 foot flag pole into the sky. The flag flies every day of the week, all year long as ordered by Presidential proclamation. The entire $850,000 cost of the memorial was paid for by US Marines, friends of the Marine Corp, and members of the Naval Services.
